LOLER Examinations

The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) requires that all lifts when in use must be thoroughly examined by a competent person at regular intervals. If the lift is used at any time to carry passengers is must be examined at least once every six months and at least once every twelve months if it is in use for "goods only."

If you are a lift owner or someone responsible for the safe operation of a lift used at work, such as a facilities manager or supervisor, you are a ‘duty holder’ under LOLER. This means that you have a legal responsibility to ensure that the lift is thoroughly examined and that it is safe to use.

LOLER inspection will also help you to comply with more general health and safety legal duties under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.

Independent Lift Consultants Ltd can carry out 6 monthly statutory LOLER inspections on your behalf in order that you can comply with this legal requirement and ensure that your lift is safe to use.

Following a thorough examination we will produce a report that will be sent to you and your lift contractor. Its aim is to detect any defects which are or might become dangerous and for the competent person to report them to the duty holder so that appropriate remedial action can be taken if necessary.

We will also be responsible for stating when periodic supplementary testing (SAFed) will be required for completion by your maintenance contractor to ensure that all critical safety elements on your lift are functioning correctly.

Additionally to this we will advise and report as part of the service regarding the general condition of the lift and independently monitor on behalf of the customer that thorough and regular inspection/maintenance work is being completed by the lift maintenance contractor to give you complete peace of mind.

As part of our service, if you have your LOLER inspections completed through us we are pleased to provide any and all advice required with regard to the day to day running of your lift at no extra cost.
